Available to women from 16 years of age.
The Babybond® Gender Scan (sexing scan) has been performed hundreds of thousands of times and remains the most popular in the UK.
As a private healthcare provider, we’ve correctly sexed more babies from 16 weeks than anyone else!
Your choice of a free rescan is included if your baby’s position is not favourable on the day.
All scans performed by a qualified Sonographer with obstetric ultrasound scanning experience.
Please note ultrasound alone can never provide a 100% guarantee of the sex of your baby.
Sexing of your baby is complimentary with our Anomaly, Growth, Presentation, and 4D Baby Scans scans.
What does this scan include?
Babybond well–being check of fetal heartbeat and movement and professional opinion on the sex of the baby using ultrasound, available from 16 – 32 weeks gestation.
- 15 minute diagnostic appointment
- Babybond wellbeing checklist
- Sexing of baby
- 2D ultrasound b/w prints in sleeve
- Plus 4DFREEVIEW™ with 3D ultrasound b/w prints in sleeve*
- Ultrasound Direct toMOBILE delivery of your scan images and report
When your baby’s position is not ideal for a gender scan we stop scanning and ask you to take a short gentle walk in the local area. A head circumference measurement is undertaken to confirm gestational age and your baby must measure 16 weeks by our system to allow us to determine the gender of your baby. If our measurements make you less than 16 weeks, we will offer you a rescan at a later date.
Please note that during the pandemic, we may not be asking clients to take a gentle walk unless clinic times allow. If your baby is not in a favourable position, you will be re-booked for a free rescan. This ensures that we keep you and other clients safe by avoiding multiple people in the clinic at any one time.
During this lockdown period, the primary purpose of all our scans will continue to be ensuring yours and your baby’s well-being. 4D Bonding and the Gender of your baby will be attempted where possible but will not be re-booked during the lockdown period if we are unable to achieve this at the time of your initial scan. A free re-scan will be booked after lockdown.
While we always do our best, we cannot guarantee we will be able to determine the gender on the day if your baby is in an unfavourable position. Please take this in to consideration when arranging any Gender Reveal plans.
This scan includes viewing your baby in live 4D from available views and thermal b/w 3D scan prints at no extra charge. Please note that 4DFREEVIEW is a free option and if your baby’s position is not favorable for aesthetics on the day, we cannot offer a free rescan for this reason.

Frequently Asked Question
Why choose to have a 15 minute gender scan appointment?
As the name suggests, any gender scan (or sexing scan) will show you if your baby is likely to be a boy or girl, but please note that ultrasound can never provide a 100% guarantee.
This 15 minute gender scan allows you to book as early as 16 weeks and as late as 32 weeks. At these earlier and later gestations, your baby's size and position can make it harder to image successfully, so we allow more time.
If you do choose this longer appointment, you also get a great opportunity of seeing your baby in live 4D with our 4DFREEVIEW no cost option.
Your baby's position and gestational age plus maternal BMI are key factors in the likelihood of sexing your baby accurately during your appointment. If your baby's position is not favourable on the day, you'll have the option of a free rescan.
What is the difference between diagnostic and non-diagnostic scans?
Any pregnancy scans referred to as "non-diagnostic" should be avoided.
It implies that the (diagnostic) ultrasound equipment is not being used in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines, that the person operating it may not be a health care professional or following their duty of care requirements (i.e. ignoring any incidental findings), may not be professionally insured and are ignoring the fundamental safety guideline set out by the DoH in the UK.
All of our pregnancy scans include a minimum of a well-being check, are carried out by health care professionals who will act upon their duty of care with incidental findings and who can write clinical reports.
Our ultrasound systems are sourced through official channels and are set-up and operated to the manufacturer's guidelines
What if my scan shows something is wrong or I need help after my appointment?
Very rarely, there may be a problem that is totally unexpected and we are the bearers of bad news.
Never easy to hear, we will ensure you have the time, support and a plan of care arranged. We will continue our course of support for as long as you need us.
If you become concerned about any aspect of your scan, the images and recordings you have taken home or you wish to make a complaint, you can contact the clinic where you had your scan and our staff will discuss any concerns that you may have.
Are your sonographers qualified?
Yes. All our sonographers are fully trained and qualified to perform ultrasound scans and many of them also work in the NHS locally. Scans with Ultrasound Direct will always be performed by a qualified professional whose primary interest is your health. All our sonographers take care to follow the latest safety guidelines and are registered with the HCPC. We’re also registered with the independent regulator the Care Quality Commission to ensure the highest standards possible.
What if I get bad news during my scan?
In the event of unexpected findings: we will offer clear advice on the next steps available to you and will offer to contact the local hospital on your behalf.
Should you receive bad news in your scan you are welcome to take time in private in our clinics to process the news and gather your thoughts before leaving: we never want you to feel rushed.
Are children welcome in the scan room?
Yes! The number of guests you can bring in for a scan is listed with the type of scan on our website. We only ask that any guests are well behaved: that includes children, excited partners and new grandparents!
