This package is suitable if you have been diagnosed with, or suspect you may have, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or if you’re experiencing symptoms such as irregular periods, acne, excess hair growth or unexplained weight changes.

The HBA1C Glycosylated blood test measures the level of sugar in your blood by assessing how much glucose is attached to haemoglobin in the red blood cells. This test provides a longer-term picture of blood glucose levels.

The lipid profile blood test measures the levels of fats in your blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides. This test helps to identify potential risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.

This blood test measures the level of free thyroxine (FT4) in your bloodstream. This is a key hormone, produced in the thyroid gland, that regulates metabolism, energy levels and overall hormonal balance.

The Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Blood Test helps to indicate whether your thyroid is overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underachieve (hypothyroidism).

A Full Blood Count Blood Test is a way to look at the health of your blood cells, by looking at the size, shape and volume of platelets in your blood. Platelets are what causes your blood to clot.

This blood test measures the total amount of testosterone in the bloodstream. Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone and is also present in females (in smaller amounts).

This blood test measures the amount of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) in your blood. This is a protein that regulates the availability of hormones like testosterone and oestrogen and abnormal levels could indicate hormone imbalances.

FSH helps control the menstrual cycle and the growth of follicles, which contain eggs, in the ovaries. The blood test is done on the second or third day of your menstrual cycle and is used to evaluate egg supply and ovarian function.

LH is produced by the pituitary gland and plays a key role in the reproductive system. This blood test can be used to assess fertility, investigate irregular periods, evaluate menopause and help diagnose hormone imbalances.

This blood test measures the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood after an overnight fast. It helps check how well your body is controlling your blood sugar and can detect diabetes or pre-diabetes. Knowing your fasting glucose level can help you take steps to maintain healthy blood sugar.

This blood test measures the amount of active testosterone in your blood. It helps to understand hormone balance and can support diagnosis of PCOS.

When will I receive my blood test results?

The time in which you receive blood test results will vary based on your location and the type of blood test. We have courier services available at some clinics which can provide results in 1 - 2 working days. Some lab tests take longer, with results available in 7 working days. You can call your clinic to find out the most likely timeline for your results.

If you book multiple blood tests or a blood test package you may receive the results for each blood test at different times.

Your blood test

Our phlebotomy-trained professionals will take a blood sample from you. This sample will be analysed in the UK by our authorised partners, TDL. By booking this blood test, you agree for us to share your personal information with TDL in order to process your test. We’ll make sure you consent to this at your appointment too.

Blood tests will be processed and analysed by our partner TDL.

Every test at Ultrasound Direct is reviewed by a GP, with a clear, easy-to-understand extended GP report provided. 

Where your results & GP report indicate a high risk outcome, a GP will contact you directly for a consultation with Duality Healthcare at no extra cost.

Preparing for your fertility blood test appointment

  • Hydrate

    Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours before your blood test. This will make the blood draw easier.

  • Make sure the blood draw area is easily accessible 

    Wear loose clothing that allows easy access to both arms and hands.

  • If you are on anticoagulant medication, take it after the appointment

    If this is not possible, you can take it before your appointment, if it is absolutely essential.

  • Let our clinic team know if you are nervous about needles

    They will make sure you’re calm and comfortable and do everything they can to make your blood draw quick and simple.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is not unusual for some bleeding to occur under the skin following your blood test and sometimes this can extend a little further around the puncture site.  If this causes you concern, check with your practice nurse. 

Sometimes we cannot get a blood sample from you. This can be for many reasons, such as not being hydrated enough, feeling cold or having another blood test recently. We will always offer you another appointment so we can try again.
