Thyroid T3 Blood Test

The hormone triiodothyronine (T3) is an active hormone produced by the thyroid. It regulates your metabolism. The Thyroid T3 Blood Test measures the amount of T3 in your blood, which can indicate if your thyroid is functioning normally or not.

If you book one individual blood test we will charge a £30.00 blood draw fee in addition to the listed price. If you call your clinic to book two or more blood tests in the same appointment, you will not be charged this additional fee.

Why test for T3?

Common reasons for this test are:

  • To investigate symptoms that could indicate a problem with your thyroid

  • To get a clear picture of your thyroid function and health

  • To assess whether thyroid medication is working

Preparing for your blood test

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours before your blood test. This will make the blood draw easier.

  • Make sure the blood draw area is easily accessible: Wear loose clothing that allows access to both arms and hands.

  • If you're on anticoagulant medication, take it after the appointment: If this is not possible, you can take it before the appointment, if it's absolutely essential.

  • Let our clinic team know if you are nervous about needles: They will make sure you're calm and comfortable and do everything they can to make your blood draw quick and simple.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, we will send you the results and recommend that you share these with your GP.

It's not unusual for some bleeding to occur under the skin following your blood test, and sometimes this can extend a little further around the puncture site. If this causes you concern, check with your practice nurse.

As healthcare professionals the health and wellbeing of you and your baby is our priority. There may be occasions when we need to discuss unexpected findings or bad news. If this happens during your scan, our team will ensure you receive the best possible compassionate care delivered to you as sensitively as possible.

We will also recommend your next steps. With your consent, we can contact the local early pregnancy unit or midwife on your behalf where possible. For general health scans, we can email our report and supporting images to your GP.

If after your scan you become concerned about the scan itself or your images and video clips, just call the clinic where you had your scan to discuss any concerns. If the clinic is closed, contact our head office who will be more than happy to help with your query.

There could be occasions where we cannot get.a blood sample from you. This can happen for many reasons, such as not being hydrated enough, feeling cold or recently having another blood test. If this does happen, don't worry, we will offer you another appointment so we can try again.
