Aug '16 – Experience with AQP gains Ultrasound Direct a further NHS partnership

Aug Ultrasound Direct, together with a contract partner, provide community ultrasound services to local GP’s using an innovative ‘Capacity on Demand’ model.

The ‘Capacity on Demand’ model allows NHS commissioners, and the contract partnership, the ability to calibrate ultrasound capacity in line with patient demand. Historically, ultrasound services are purchased ahead of a known patient volume, which may carry a financial risk for the NHS.

Peter Oattes, the National Ultrasound Manager for Ultrasound Direct, believes the ‘Capacity on Demand’ model negates the financial threat that NHS commissioners are confronted with when commissioning ultrasound services through the traditional AQP route.

Permitting increases and decreases in ultrasound capacity to coincide with patient demand, allows commissioners savings on service costs, as well as valuable NHS resources, giving commissioners a truly affordable and scalable ultrasound provision.

Having invested in education, state of the art equipment and advanced technology, Ultrasound Direct is able to report seamlessly back to NHS referrers. Reports and images are available to NHS secondary care institutes via the secure Image Exchange Portal (IEP).

Operating our latest contract throughout Leicestershire and Rutland, the non-obstetric (NOUS) service, which includes musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS), has been well received by both GP’s and patients alike, who appreciate the convenience and quality of service delivered by a NHS experienced and dedicated ultrasound provider.
