Frequently Asked Question
Why choose to have a presentation scan?
Using ultrasound, a presentation scan will tell you which end of the baby is ‘presenting’ or coming first. The vast majority of babies are head-first.
About 3% will be bottom down at the end of a pregnancy. Most breech babies will be found at an antenatal appointment with your Midwife, who will then offer to refer you as per your hospital guidelines.
Occasionally, it’s not until labour starts that a bottom is found, but this is extremely rare. Knowing in advance will help you decide what your options are and what sort of birth to plan.
What if my scan shows something is wrong or I need help after my appointment?
Very rarely, there may be a problem that is totally unexpected and we are the bearers of bad news.
Never easy to hear, we will ensure you have the time, support and a plan of care arranged. We will continue our course of support for as long as you need us.
If you become concerned about any aspect of your scan, the images and recordings you have taken home or you wish to make a complaint, you can contact the clinic where you had your scan and our staff will discuss any concerns that you may have.
Are your sonographers qualified?
Yes. All our sonographers are fully trained and qualified to perform ultrasound scans and many of them also work in the NHS locally. Scans with Ultrasound Direct will always be performed by a qualified professional whose primary interest is your health. All our sonographers take care to follow the latest safety guidelines and are registered with the HCPC. We’re also registered with the independent regulator the Care Quality Commission to ensure the highest standards possible.
What if I get bad news during my scan?
In the event of unexpected findings: we will offer clear advice on the next steps available to you and will offer to contact the local hospital on your behalf.
Should you receive bad news in your scan you are welcome to take time in private in our clinics to process the news and gather your thoughts before leaving: we never want you to feel rushed.
Are children welcome in the scan room?
No children will be allowed in clinic until further notice to help minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19.
